Current mood: crazy

I think I'm on crack.

OK, so over dinner this evening, my mum randomly asked me if I wanted to go to Uni, and said she'd support me if I wanted to go.

Now, I have spent the past 2 years assuming that I wouldn't go to University, because my parents didn't want me to so I didn't research it/try at all on my A Levels etc. I've spend the past year doing a 'gap year' - working as a waitress until I joined the Army. This statement from my mother was completely out of the blue.

But I thought about it, and decided that I want to go.

So when we got home from the restaurant, we went on the internet and looked up Courses at the local Universities (Southampton and Portsmouth) and found out what we could salvage from my meager A Level Results (as in: you needed 180 points to get into the Army as an officer, so 180 points is exactly what I got - I'm not exactly an 'above and beyond' kind of girl)

Now, in the UK, pretty much the only way you can apply to University is through a company called UCAS, so I went on the website, set up an account, and started my application.

I wrote my personal statement in about 30 mins flat. I have even applied for a student loan!!!

Now all I need is a reference, which I'm hoping to ask one of my ex-teachers about tomorrow.

Did I mention that the cut off date for applications is Saturday? Talk about leaving things to the last minute *g*

Go you! How exciting! I think the fact that it's a last-minute decision will make it all the sweeter if/when you are offered a place :) Good luck!

I know, that's what I'm worried about a bit - now that I've got all excited about it, what if I'm rejected? :S But I'll go in for Clearing if I don't get in. I think it'll help that Southampton and Portsmouth aren't exactly Cambridge and Oxford...

I'm sure you'll be just fine - I know someone who got onto the Philosophy course at Manchester Met Uni with no a-levels (she arranged an interview with the head of department, and he was impressed, so offered her the place)! Fingers crossed for you :)
